Hui Kong is a Postdoctoral Associate at JTL Urban Mobility Lab and MIT Transit Lab. Her research interests lie in the fields of big data analytics, spatial analysis, geographic information science (GIS), shared mobility, the use of transportation smart card data in human mobility studies, and urban planning. Her current research focuses on the substitution vs. complementarity relationship between ride-hailing and public transit, the efficiency of shared mobility, the impacts of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) on travel behavior, and the customer satisfaction surveys of public transit riders. She has also conducted research in mixed-use development of communities, Cellular Automata modeling, and urban design theories. 

Hui has been trained as a planner and economist at Peking University (B.S. in Urban and Rural Planning, B.A. in Economics), and as a GISer at the Dept. of Geography in the Ohio State University (M.A. and Ph.D. in GIS & Spatial Analysis). Starting from November 2020, she will become an assistant professor as contract at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, University of Minnesota.
